Kuching Trip Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Last weekend, together with some church friends we went to Kuching for a long weekend trip. We were very busy prior to the trip, even luggage packing was very last minute. You have to understand, travelling with toddlers require lots of careful packing. We have to ensure enough food, diapers, clothes, spare medicine for Myra. Thanks to Michelle who basically took care of these things.

Myra was very excited of flying once again. She had been saying she wanted to go Kuching, and sat airplane days before the trip. However, she didn’t know what Kuching means, where it is. Nonetheless, she was very excited.

We were very grateful that our friend Julian was from Kuching, and his family still live in Kuching. Julian’s parents, uncle & aunty are very friendly and are great hosts. Our 3 days 2 nights trip were fully packed, packed with food. This was very challenging to Michelle and I as we are not big eaters.

My impression of Kuching:
- Foods are much cheaper. Kolo mee (kind of like wantan mee) cost RM2.30, Kopi-O cost RM0.80, chap fan cost RM2-RM3
- Life is in slower pace there, more peaceful and less stress
- In center of Kuching, you hardly see very tall building or mountain, so the view are very flat, blue sky, nice
- I thought there were many cat statues in whole of Kuching, that isn’t true, just spotted a few
- Lots of good food, even though that wasn’t the reason of our visit
- Lots of things to be discovered as Sarawak is rich with their ethnic groups cultures and histories

Our itinerary (Skip this as it might bore you)
Day 1: After reached, we went for lunch, ate asam fish nearby Julian’s house. Then went to eat ice cream in Sunny Hill, which was started like 40 years ago (if I am not mistaken), the profit partly goes to charity. Then we dropped by to see people sell fish. Checked in hotel then we went to Top Spot seafood restaurant, big portion of dinner. Then went for special ABC drink in a hawker center, then pork satay. A short walked by water front before we called it a night.

Day 2: We had our breakfast “kuai chat” (type of kuay teow with pork meat + optional internal organs), visited cultural village, beach resorts nearby. Then we had light dinner at satay house, medium dinner at sea food restaurant trying the fried crab with salty egg, prawn and other dishes. Walked the water front again before we went for Siao Bi, a bit similar like Dim Sum “siew mai”

Day 3: Michelle K.O. with her stomach upset and felt very weak. As for me, I wasn’t feeling very well as well. But that didn’t stop me to try laksa, fish ball, kolo mee. We dropped by museums as well.

Thank God, Myra enjoyed herself a lot. She grows closer to our friends and learned to explore a lot of things.

By Sunday night, all of us, the Ms were all worn out and hit our sacks once back home.
